Question: Regarding circumcision (The practice of circumcision goes back to Abraham) - Did you really ask Abraham to do this? Why circumcision? Why males only? If you did not ask Abraham to do this, then why did He do this?

God’s answer:

Ouch!

A knife with the word: circumcision

I never laid a hand on him. He wanted to impress Me.

Meaning: God did not order Abraham to circumcise himself or others. Abraham did this to impress God. The word impress has two meanings:

  1. "Make (someone) feel admiration and respect:" - in this case God.

1564
  1. "Make a mark or design on (an object) using a stamp or seal; imprint"7: - Abraham did this to mark himself and others (family and slaves) to remember God and His covenant.

Again, this is related to the previous discussion about sacrifice and God’s ending statement that “He does not need to be impressed”

The other time when God supposedly ask for circumcision was during the time of Moses. To answer this God led me to a bible passage whereby Jesus refers to circumcision as the “law of Moses”. In other words, this was not the “law of God”.
